4 The Outside of a Book Sometimes the outside of a book is covered with a Book Jacket. This is the paper or plastic coated covering that is found on the outside of the book. The outside of the book will also have the title, author, and usually a colorful picture.

5 Inside the Front of a Book
The Title Page is at the beginning of a book, usually on the second or third right-hand page. The Title Page tells the same information as the front cover PLUS… it tells who the publisher is and where the publishing company is located. The Verso Page is on the back of the Title Page. Sometimes it is called the Copyright Page. This page tells us: - The year of publication - Editor information The ISBN number The call number Subject headings and more…. Copyright Symbol Copyright Notice Year ©1999 by Ima Writer All rights reserved, including the right of reproduction in whole or in part in any form.

7 Sometimes the dedication is added to the Verso or Copyright Page.
Inside the Front of a Book The Dedication Page usually comes right before or after the Title Page. Sometimes the dedication is added to the Verso or Copyright Page. The Dedication is where the author and/or illustrator write a short note thanking someone or a group of people for their support and help writing the book. To my family who inspired me and helped me write this book I.R.

Acknowledgements To all people who ask me where I found the stories and metaphors that I use in my work. Their sheer persistence and refusal to go out and find their own stories encouraged me to start work on my first draft. The Acknowledgment is a list of everyone who helped the author create and produce the book.

The body of the book will contain Chapter Headings and lots of paragraphs Each paragraph will have a topic sentence and often Bold Print or Boxed Text Words Chapter 1 BOLD WORDS Boxed Text Words

Maps, Charts and Diagrams in a nonfiction book show information in the form of pictures, drawings, charts, maps, outlines, and more. A Chart A Map A Diagram

A Caption is a title, short explanation, or description of an illustration, a picture, or a photograph. The Taj Mahal in India

The Appendix is a collection of important information like charts, tables, maps, timelines and other resources usually found in the back of the book. (These are things the author did not want to put into the body of the text) Timeline FAST FACTS Official Name Capitol Official Language

Some books have a Glossary in the back of the book They are usually only found in nonfiction books. The Glossary contains an alphabetical list of words found in the book along with their definitions.
