| 2 Universal Lighting Technologies Why Dimming? Dimming saves energy! Architectural dimming “creates a mood” that only dimming can do. But dimming can also do a lot more by saving energy in an entire building. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, lighting represents 40% of the average commercial building’s electric bill. By dimming the lights even a little, you can save electricity and lower the energy bill significantly. As additional energy legislation takes effect, we’ll see more opportunities for dimming technology in both the new construction and retrofit areas.
3
| 3 Universal Lighting Technologies Legislation Recent legislation is shifting the entire lighting industry into higher efficiency. As these changes take place, there will be a growing need to understand the impact of these decisions. Technology is shifting towards more efficient products. Rebates and incentives are becoming more appealing. For a list of rebates and energy incentives by state visit the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) website: http://www.dsireusa.org/http://www.dsireusa.org/ Most of Universal’s ballasts already comply See all T8 ballasts labeled NEMA Premium.

| 4 Universal Lighting Technologies Regulations & Regional Influences New building energy regulations continue to grow stricter, demanding not only energy efficiency, but also higher levels of controllability. New and upcoming revisions to commercial building energy codes for ASHRAE 90.1 2010 & IECC 2012... 1.Manual lighting control to reduce light levels, in a uniform pattern, by at least 50% 2.Occupancy sensors and daylight harvesting required in certain areas. 3.Automatic shut-off control. 4.New interior and exterior lighting power allowances. New and upcoming revisions to commercial building codes for California Title 24... 1.Continuous or 5-level step-dimming to at least 40%. 2.Demand-Response readiness for buildings 10,000+ sq ft. 3.Multiple dimming zones for daylight harvesting. This information is not meant, in any way, to replace the actual language from legislation documents.

| 5 Universal Lighting Technologies Universal’s Dimming Product Offering Universal’s dimming products are available in a variety of digital and analog technology options (Step Dimming, 0-10V, Digital, and Energy Management). We’re well established in dimming with most OEMs and our products are the industry standard. Universal dimming products can help meet the new standards, applications and requirements. Universal’s T5 and T5HO Product Offering BallaSTAR®: These ballasts are for light level switch dimming. They are a high efficiency option to switch light levels to 50% power for energy code requirements. Designed for T5 and T8 step dimming. LevelPRO®: These ballasts are the same as BallaSTAR plus parallel lamp operation. LevelPRO covers both T8 and T5 lamp applications. Designed for use with energy saving lamps with normal and high ballast factor options. Covers universal voltage and 347 Volt. SuperDim®: These ballasts offer a full range of dimming control from 10V (full bright at 100%) to 0V (full dim at 1% to 5%). Comprehensive line covers 1 & 2 lamp T8, and T5; plus CFL 13, 18, 26, 32 and 42 Watt. VariPRO®: These ballasts are the same as SuperDim plus true parallel lamp operation. Universal Input Voltage & dedicated 347 Volt models. Ballasts for T5, T8 and T5HO, including the 30, 28, and 25 Watt energy saving T8 lamps. DaliPRO®: These ballasts are compatible with wide variety of DALI controls and systems. Full line of CFL, T5, TT5, T5HO and T8 ballasts. Demand Control Lighting (DCL®): A lighting energy management control system which allows lighting to be reduced. Using existing power line connections (no control wires) incorporate with other lighting strategies for even more savings. Demand response ready. DEMANDflex™ : When combined with DCL® controls, these high efficiency ballasts are part of the most cost‐effective lighting energy management system available. | 6 Universal Lighting Technologies Benefits of Step Dimming | 6 STEP DIMMING: Easy to Install / Cost Effective Step Dimming allows the contractor an easier (less technical because no low voltage leads are necessary) “grab and go” install option. With normal install procedures the contractor can get the job done and get off the job in a hurry. BallaSTAR®: Easy to install. No additional low voltage control wiring needed. Uses standard wall switches or relays. Compatible with occupancy sensors. Programmed starting provides long lamp life in frequently switched applications. Eliminates dark spots - even illumination. Can be incorporated into building management systems. Meets energy code switching requirements including ASHRAE 90.1 and California Title 24. LevelPRO®: Same as BallaSTAR plus they were designed as a high efficiency dimming ballast with parallel lamp operation (when one lamp fails, the others remain lit). Fast starting time: <700 milliseconds. Dual T8/T5 lamp technology. Complies with CEE. NEMA Premium. RoHS Compliant.

| 7 Universal Lighting Technologies Benefits of 0-10V Analog Control | 7 0-10V ANALOG: High Performance / Max Energy Savings The 0-10V Analog Dimming allows gradual and full range dimming – no abrupt lamp shut off. SuperDim®: Architectural 0-10V Analog (full range) dimming control. Programmed starting provides long lamp life in frequently switched applications. Cost effective solution for single zone apps. Compatible with industry standard controls and photocells. Ideal for daylight harvesting. Complies with CEE. NEMA Premium. RoHS Compliant. VariPRO® Same as SuperDim plus they were designed as a high efficiency dimming ballast with parallel lamp operation (when one lamp fails, the others remain lit). Fast starting time: <700 milliseconds. Designed for maximum energy savings and high efficiency. CEE Compliant. NEMA Premium. RoHS Compliant.

| 9 Universal Lighting Technologies Benefits of Demand Control Lighting | 9 ENERGY MANAGEMENT Demand Response / Control Energy Savings DEMANDflex™: An energy management control system for reduction of lighting demand and power consumption. Using existing power line connections (no control wires) incorporate with other lighting strategies for even more savings. DCL®: Reduces lighting power levels by up to 50% through a variety of control options. Incorporate scheduling and load shedding strategies to reduce peak demand charges.

| 10 Universal Lighting Technologies Target Segments ENERGY MANAGEMENT: Controlling dimming allows the end user to control their energy usage and thus control their energy bill. Finding energy management applications is a MUCH bigger market than finding architectural applications. So selling an engineer our solution could mean 1000s of ballasts for a building vs. a few for a cozy space. A building will take multiple products to create a full lighting solution. For Banking consider: They are doing a huge amount of remodels right now as they consolidate. They now represent a lot more properties and need to make all locations cheaper and more efficient to run. For Classrooms consider: individual control for teachers to adjust as needed. For Parking Garages consider: For dark stairs, keep them lit when needed. Also consider the security factor that well lit space provides. For Warehouses consider: With lots of square footage, and the need to keep aisles brightly lit for forklift operators, dimming when needed helps control costs. Additional Building Types: grocery, healthcare, hotels, motels, libraries, manufacturing, theatres, multifamily buildings, museums, offices, penitentiaries, performing arts theatres, municipalities, sports arenas, town halls and transportation facilities. Whether it’s for new construction or a retrofit project, Universal’s dimming ballasts (with their wide variety of options to meet even the most demanding specification), have become the dominant player in architectural and energy management applications. ARCHITECTURAL: Architectural dimming “creates a mood” that only dimming can do. –Control space and ambience. –Create a cozy environment –Support stylish design –Emphasize architectural features – Enhance working environments –Create a mood Dimming: Applications
