This is the method used by the manufacturer of a chemical substance to provide information about the product to the user What is a Material Safety Data Sheet? This is the method used by the manufacturer of a chemical substance to provide information about the product to the user What is a Chemical Inventory List (CIL)? This is a list of potentially hazardous chemical substances found in a given location. CIL for University Mailing Services includes list of potentially hazardous chemicals used and stored University Mailing Services Where are University Mailing Services MSDS’s and CIL’s kept? They are kept in a black loose leaf notebook clearly labeled “MSDS”. The notebook is kept in the front office on the supplies desk What is an Employee Exposure Report (EER)? This is a report that records the unsafe exposure of any employee to a chemical on the CIL. An exposure is contact with a chemical without required safety equipment How do I fill out an EER? Fill in the blanks within 24 hours of the exposure. The EER is retained by the OSU Safety Department for at least 40 years. You may refer to the report during the storage time 5

7. Questions & Answers What information does a MSDS give? Any Health Hazards (Acute or Chronic Effects) e.g. Rinse Free Stripper may cause skin and eye irritation. Avoid prolonged skin contact and inhalation of mist vapors Exposure Limits e.g. “Not Established”, “Avoid Prolonged Contact” First Aid Procedures e.g. “Flush eyes or skin for at least 15 minutes with plenty of water. If irritation persists, call a physician. If swallowed, induce vomiting immediately by giving two glasses of water and sticking finger down throat.
