NEWS IN CARDIAC PACING Atrial stimulation in Sleep Apnea Syndrome Sleep Apnea Syndrome: CPAPContinuous Positive Airway Pressure Sleep apnea is characterized by pauses in breathing. Effective treatment is CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) and requires some heavy equipment while sleeping. Without the use of this equipment, lack of oxygen causes slow heartbeat, and even temporary discontinuation sometimes. © Dr. Richard MONIN Cardiac Pacemaker Heart

In order to stimulate their atrium, a cardiac pacemaker is implanted in patients suffering from apneas and whose heartbeats are too slow. Thus, night apneas are reduced by 50%, which noticeably reduces day symptoms such as fatigue and drowsiness. © Dr. Richard MONIN Cardiac Pacemaker Heart NEWS IN CARDIAC PACING

How to stimulate the atrium? By implanting a stimulator acting on both the atrium and the ventricle, and by synchronizing the two atria with a catheter positioned through the interatrial septum. This technique is performed in “La Parisière” Private Hospital. © Dr. Richard MONIN Cardiac Pacemaker Heart Atrial pacing wire VentricularPacingwire PACEMAKER NEWS IN CARDIAC PACING

Warning: heart rhythm disorders This technique is reserved to patients suffering from heart rhythm disorders combined with sleep apnea syndrome. Even though prognosis and symptoms are improved, standard treatment with CPAP is still needed so far. © Dr. Richard MONIN Cardiac Pacemaker Heart NEWS IN CARDIAC PACING
