Who was Jesus? And Was Jesus the son of God?
The Deity of Christ Who was Jesus? And Was Jesus the son of God?
2
What We believe Jesus is God!
God and Jesus are the same being in two different persons! (The Holy Spirit as well makes up the whole Trinity, but we are only focusing on Jesus at the moment) Jesus is the son of God!
3
What Others Believe Muslims believe that he was a great prophet but was not God and never claimed to be nor did he die on the cross. Jews believe he was a great teacher but not the Messiah Jehovah’s Witnesses believe he was created by God and is not equal to him (They believe he was the Archangel Michael) Atheists believe he was a great moral teacher but was not divine

Evidence of his Divinity
His life was prophesied by the prophets in the Old Testament Many called him the Son of God Jesus himself claimed to be God many times He performed miracles He died and rose from the dead

A Child of Prophecy Jesus’ birth, life, and death were all prophesied well before he was born. The old testament is filled with prophecies about the messiah and his life. Isaiah 7:14 – Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. This is fulfilled in Matthew 1: (Read from Bible with group) Micah 5:2 – “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, and whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” This is fulfilled in Luke 2:1-7

A Child of Prophecy Jesus’ birth, life, and death were all prophesied well before he was born. The old testament is filled with prophecies about the messiah and his life. Hosea 11:1 – “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.” This is fulfilled in Matthew 2:13 These are just a few of the many (And I stress MANY) examples!

The Life & Death of Jesus Christ
Jesus’ life and his death was prophesied years before his birth. All over the old testament we see examples of prophecy that he fulfilled just by the last years of his ministry. Psalm 22 verses 1, 6-7, 14, and all describe the crucifixion of Jesus. These prophecies are fulfilled in all four gospels. Isaiah 53 is the most clear prophecy of his death and what his death meant. (also fulfilled in the Gospels)

The Divine Nature of His Name
Many called Jesus the son of God and Jesus actually referred to himself as the son of God. Jesus’ very own name is evidence of his divinity. Here are some passages that unquestionably call Jesus “God”. John 1:1-2 & 14 – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen the glory, the glory of the one and only, who came from the Father, Full of grace and Truth.” Many times Jesus is called Immanuel which means “God with us” Isaiah 7:14 Philippians 2:6-11 – “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeliness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death…..Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ IS Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

The Divine Nature of His Name
John 20:28 – Thomas calls Jesus, “My Lord and My God!” Isaiah 9:6 – For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

The Divine Nature of His Name
Jehovah is described in the Old Testament in a number of unique titles. These titles are applied to Jesus Christ in the New Testament Exodus 3: And Moses said unto God, “Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?” And God said unto Moses, “I Am That I Am” : and he said, “Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.” John 8:58-59 – “I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered, “Before Abraham was born, I am! ” At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. Other examples include Deuteronomy 10:17 and Revelations 17:14, Isaiah 41:4, 44:6, 48:12 and Revelations 1:17, 2:8, 22:13.

The Divine Nature of His Name
Jesus called himself the “Son of Man” John 10:35-37 Daniel 7:13-14 “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.”
