2 What is an Honor Society? An honor society is a group of nurse scholars and leaders recognized for their superior achievement, leadership qualities, high professional standards and commitment to the profession of nursing.

4 Mission of the Society The society’s mission is to provide leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. We support the learning and professional development of our members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.

5 Purposes of Sigma Theta Tau International 1.Recognize superior achievement and scholarship. 2.Recognize the development of leadership qualities. 3.Foster high professional standards. 4.Encourage creative work. 5.Strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.

6 History of STTI Began in 1922 by six nursing students 360,000+ nurses have been inducted 120,000 active members Members live in 100+ countries

7 Membership Eligibility Students (Undergraduate, Master’s, Doctoral students) Professional Nurse leaders

8 Undergraduate Students must Have completed ½ of the nursing curriculum Achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.0 or higher) Rank in the upper 35 percentile of the graduating class Meet the expectation of academic integrity.

9 Graduate Students (Master's and Doctorate) must have completed ¼ of the nursing curriculum; achieve academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to a 3.5 or higher); meet the expectation of academic integrity
