The food guide pyramid: how much food we each in each group per DAY. 6 food groups are: grains, veggies, fruits, oils, dairy, protein

Carbohydrates: Sugars and starches
Fiber is a carb that cleans our digestive track but it is not digested by our bodies.

4. My Food Plate-How much we should eat from eat group per MEAL
You should eat most from the grains and veggies group. Eat the least from the fats, sweets, and oils groups.

5. Villi-small finger like projections in the small intestine
This is a picture of the VILLI that is found in the SMALL INTESTINE and is responsible for the ABSORPTION of nutrients. Absorption is the process by which nutrient molecules pass through the digestive system. The villi adds surface area to the small intestine.

6. NUTRIENTS, NUTRIENTS!!! Protein: made up of amino acids
Minerals: Iron, magnesium, phosphorus
Fat: highest energy nutrient
Water has zero calories

Most digestion takes place in the small intestine. The large intestine absorbs water out of undigested food so it can be eliminated.

11. Peristalsis-the muscular action (contractions) that moves food along the digestive track.
Hydrochloric acid is the chemical produced in the stomach that kills germs and provides an acidic environment for pepsin to work. Pepsin break down proteins in the stomach and mucus lines the stomach to the acid does not break down the stomach wall.
