Control Signal Type The Signal type is dependent on the end user’s process control system and the I/O cards used Traditional feedback signals are line voltage AC, around 500 mA –SPDT contact types typically used –Standard mechanical switches are sufficient –Tungsten TTL proximity switches are also acceptable –Voltage and current fluctuations/spikes from unconditioned line power require switches that can handle the application Newer control systems are using low current/low voltage DC signals as low as 8 V and 20 mA –Gold plated mechanical switches (low cost option) –Rhodium TTL switches are the best chopice Standard mechanical switches are not recommended as the silver contacts can tarnish, increasing contact resistance Tungsten switches have a high contact resistance to begin with Selection Process – 2.
