1 Reconstruction Amendments
SOL: USII.3a The student will demonstrate knowledge of the effects of Reconstruction on American life by a) analyzing the impact of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the Constitution of the United States.

2 What is an AMENDMENT? AMENDMENT is any CHANGE to the U.S. Constitution
The U.S. Constitution: the document that serves as the supreme law of the United States. AMENDMENT is any CHANGE to the U.S. Constitution

3 There are 3 Reconstruction Amendments you will need to know:
13th Amendment 14th Amendment 15th Amendment

4 Put a STOP to slavery. 13th Amendment
The 13th Amendment bans slavery in the United States and all of its territories. Put a STOP to slavery.

5 14th Amendment The 14th Amendment grants citizenship to all persons born in the United States and guarantees them equal protection under the law. The government must YIELD to the Constitution & give you your rights as an American citizen if you were born in the United States.

6 people the “green light” to go ahead and VOTE
15th Amendment Gave ALL people the “green light” to go ahead and VOTE The 15th Amendment ensures all citizens the right to vote regardless of; race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

7 Equal Protection Under Law=
These three amendments guarantee equal protection under the law for all citizens. Equal Protection Under Law= ALL CITIZENS are equal in the eyes of the law.

8 Make your own Amendments stoplight
Requirements: You may use; PPT, Word, Paint or Construction Paper Include all 3 Reconstruction Amendments Write a description of each Amendment. Save as “Amendment Stoplight” in your History/Social Studies Folder
