In year 1982 , the Office of Atomic for Peace used SIT against the Oriental fruit fly (B. dorsalis) in a initial pilot project .

AREA-WIDE INTEGRATED CONTROL OF FRUIT FLIES
2001 AREA-WIDE INTEGRATED CONTROL OF FRUIT FLIES Year 2001, Thailand adopted concept of “area-wide insect pest control” therefore, the first pilot area were expanded as area wide concept.and sterile OFF was released over mango and other fruit orchards THAILAND

Until 2002 Ratchaburi Province in Southwestern of Thailand, in Southwestern of Thailand, OFF was released over mango and other fruit orchards as core area of 13.4 km2 and as buffer zone of 21 km2 of paddy field and mountains (table 1 and figure 1). The twenty-two releasing points were determined uniformly spread with distant 1000 metres in the release area by hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver. And Pichit province located 450 km. northwest of Bangkok, which a big mango plantation area which a big mango plantation area of km2 , surrounded by field crops and mountains. Release sites would be marked for better sterile flies distribution with uniformly spread distant of 350 metres by hand-held GPS receiver .

Two main species of FF pest
ORIENTAL FRUIT FLY Bactrocera dorsalis The Oriental fruit fly-OFF (Bactrocera dorsalis, Hendel) and the guava fruit fly-GFF (B. correcta, Bezzi), has been considered the important species of agricultural pests widespread in Southeast Asia, East Asia and the Pacific .Its degree of wide spreadness is second only to the Mediterranean fruit fly. Since , only sterile OFF was released over project area then present both sterile species of OFF anf GFF were released. GUAVA FRUIT FLY Bactrocera correcta

“Community Plant Pest management Center” is the main activity,
FUTURE How to put more effort and educate farmers under condition of budget limitation. “Community Plant Pest management Center” is the main activity, to develop farmers to be “Pests Management Professional in IPM” reduce damage to farmers crops, encourage less investment and to enhance participation community in the project. AW-IPM fruit fly control programme using the SIT have been operate over large area, and sometimes involve major facility and equipments. The required financial resource may also be large. Even though a programme might be economical on a benefit/cost basis, it is not always affordable, and obtaining operating funds can be the most important issue facing a programme. As understanding that type of financing used affects programme strategy and operations, the duration of programme support, and the reliability of the support. The case of programme in Thailand, financial support from government is essential to stability and success of programme. However, sometimes government support is unreliable or not delivered in a timely manner, and in a biological programme this can easily cause delays, uncertainly, unneccessary repetition of work, and even programme failure. The basic requirements for scaling up the project from a pilot level to a national wide project is not only complex procedure of incorporating new and better technologies but also convincing government officials to support a programme is often a huge challenge.
