 Athletes suffer from eating disorders, dehydration, overtraining, and improper body movements.  Technology allows us to monitor these things efficiently.  Health and Exercise Science is exactly that, a science, and it is aided by technology.

 Monitoring hydration technology is not adequate.  Most college athletes are not focused on diet and liquids as much as they should be.  Professionals use charts, sweating, and other objective devices.  Need for high technology device is important for safety of athletes.

 Allows us to monitor the athlete’s hydration levels more directly.  Used for other liquids, but have urine specific measurements.  The gold standard for hydration monitoring.

 Take a urine sample.  Stick device into the sample, like a thermometer.  The device gives you a reading on the hydration levels.  In depth measurement to ensure accuracy.  PEN-Wrestling Digital Handheld Hydration/Urine Specific Gravity Refractometer Model 3749.  Link Link

 Body temperature is related to hydration.  Athletes need time to get acclimated to conditions.  Athletes training in summer months are exposed to extremely hot environments.  Recent tragic events involving heat related fatalities.  There are ways to monitor their body temperatures during the acclimation process.

 Swallowed by the athlete. Similar to taking a medicine in pill form.  Pill is a thermometer, that monitors the athlete’s body temperature.  The pill is monitored by an accompanying device.  Allows the professional to stop activity if needed and monitor the athlete’s safety.

 Perfect for training camps during the summer months.  Can be used for any type of athlete.  Allows the professional to monitor temperature during activity instead of after.  History of device History of device  CorTemp temperature pill CorTemp temperature pill

 The amount of fat that the athlete has is telling of their physiological processes.  Allows the professional to determine safe weights and body fat percentages for athletes.  Lets the athlete know what weights are realistic for them.  Combats overtraining and eating disorders.

 Gold standard of determining body fat percentage.  Allows the professional to determine if the athlete is in a healthy or unhealthy range.  Teaches the athlete more about their own body.  Allows the athlete to adapt activities to their own situation.

 Athlete wears a suit that allows no room for air.  They sit on a scale in the tank.  They then breathe out all of the air in their lungs.  The water and air displaced helps determine their weight in the water.  Software provided calculates their body fat.

 17400 RV Measurement System 17400 RV Measurement System  The most accurate reading.  Allows professional to create weight loss or weight gain plan for athletes.

 There are many ways to evaluate fitness levels or risk factors.  However, many times the information is scattered in computers or filing cabinets.  Need software to combine the information.

 Allows the professional to consolidate all fitness and health evaluations.  Can monitor VO2 max levels, blood lipid profiles, strength, skin folds, blood pressure, etc.  Helps keep all information on each athlete together in one place.  Health Reporter by Narbeshuber Software Health Reporter

 Allows professional to keep records like a physician would.  The more organized the more efficient.  Takes away the paper work and fluff around the program.

 Compared to Health Reporter, ATS keeps track of: ◦ Injuries, past and present ◦ Treatments done by trainers ◦ Physicals and screenings ◦ Another way of more efficiently tracking another area of athletics

 Allows for proper monitoring of the athlete.  Know every modality and treatment the athlete has done.  Lets a network of professionals to efficiently work with an athlete.  Maintaining the body is the basis of performance.  Program allows the professional to see every treatment done to the athlete.

 Many aspects of the software. ◦ Works with smartphones. ◦ A kiosk for the athletes to see what their treatment for each day is. ◦ Can connect to the program with any internet connection. ◦ The Athletic Trainer System The Athletic Trainer System

 Work together to provide safe and efficient environment.  Health science is aided by technology. ◦ Saves time ◦ Keeps records ◦ Organizes documents and files ◦ Allows professional to work on what they are good at, technology handles the rest.
