8. An architect is a person who either uses a pencil and paper or a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) program to create designs for houses, larger-scale buildings, or even simpler products and sells the designs to be used. Rectangle Back Next Menu

9. An architectural draftsman basically does the same thing that an architect does. However, an architectural draftsman usually does not go to college for as much education and experience as an architect. And an architectural draftsman will usually specialize in one area like houses, large-scale or commercial buildings, or designing smaller products. Back Next Menu

10. Computers How Computers are Used in this Career: or As an architect or an architectural draftsman, computers are very important in pursuing this career. Computers can be used to design the buildings in a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) program. 12. Schools For Architectural Design There are quite a few schools that are for architectural design. Merced High School offers a class that teaches the basics of architectural design and gives college credit for the first year. Merced College also offers a more in-depth architecture class. Other schools that offer architectural design include: California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo, University of California – Berkeley, University of California - Los Angeles, The New School of Architecture – San Diego, and other colleges too. 13. Is This Career Profitable? Being an architect or an architectural draftsman can be a good, profitable job. They can sell each of their designs and ideas for hundreds or even thousands of dollars each. Architects earned $38.13 an hour on average. Architects in the top 10 percent of the pay scale earned more than $119,410 a year, and those in the bottom 10 percent made less than $44,030. 14. Summary My career choice would either be an architect or an architectural draftsman. Computers are used in this career for quite a few different reasons: One reason is that most architects and architectural draftsmen today use the computer to design what they are trying to make. The other reason is for things like research or calculations. The computer makes it a lot easier to do these things today than doing them all by hand. There are many different colleges that offer classes for architectural design. Architects make a decent living because they get paid more than the average worker. I think that being an architect or an architectural draftsman would be a good career for me to pursue because it is a profitable career and it is what I already like to do. Back Next Menu
