A. RTI: (Responsiveness to Instruction) integrates assessment and intervention within a school‐wide, multi‐level instructional system to maximize student achievement and reduce behavior problems for all students. B. PBIS: (Positive Behavior Support) provide assistance to schools to create positive school climates and develop more effective strategies for working with challenging behavior. C. mClass: All K-5 teachers record observations with a running record and are able to quickly understand how students find meaning in text, and then assign reading levels and monitor progress to support comprehension at every level. Data recorded using tablet devices provided by the district. D. Teacher Leader Corps: All 170 schools will have four teachers trained five days each year for three years on teaching practices for the implementation of Common Core and the integration of digital content. Corps members will create Learning Labs in their classroom and deliver professional development to their colleagues. E. Letterland: phonics-based approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling to 3-8 year olds. The Letterland characters transform plain black letter shapes into child-friendly pictograms and they all live in an imaginary place called Letterland. Implemented in all kindergarten classes in 12-13 and expanding to first grade in 13-14. F. Case21: Common benchmark assessments for all schools in state tested areas. Detailed reporting to drive instructional decisions. Beginning year 2 of implementation. G. Digital Content & Resources: All schools will have access to a variety of digital content that provides high quality Common Core aligned resources. Those resources include: CMAPP, Discovery Ed, SAS Curriculum Pathways, NBC Learn, VoiceThread, HomeBase, Google Apps, etc. H. Effective Teaching Framework: A comprehensive training for administrators and other select staff beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, aimed at developing common language and understanding of effective teaching for WCPSS. I. Professional Learning: Customized professional development offered by the Office of School Performance to meet the needs of individual schools and support School Improvement Plan execution.
