What is a Project? According to the PMI or the Project Management Institute, a project is: o any work that happens once, o has a clear beginning or an end, o and is intended to create a unique product or knowledge.

What is Project Management? Project management involves the "discipline of planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives." (Wikipedia)

Project Development Stages 1.Initiation 2.Planning and designing 3.Producing or executing 4.Monitoring 5.Closing

Stage One: Initiation Determine what needs to go into your project Don't dive in too quickly Assess what you have Ask key questions: Who? What? When? Why? HOW?

Stage Two: Planning and Designing Create and maintain a plan Outline what requirements are associated with your project Communicate, Communicate, Communicate!

Stage Three: Production Involves coordinating people and resources

Stage Four: Monitoring and Controlling Observe your project Pay attention to potential problems that can slow down or even completely stop your project Take corrective or preventative action Sometimes requires directing Key questions: "Where are we now?" vs. "Where should we be?" "Are we spending too much?" "How can we get back on track?"

Stage Five: Closing Think and document lessons learned What was successful? What wasn't successful? Tell your team that the project is finished Celebrate together! Recognize your team's success and contributions
