General Nouns person, place, thing, idea (concept) Examples: girl city shoe love

Proper Nouns specific nouns (usually give the noun a proper name) (almost always starts with a capital letter) Examples: Kelly Clarkson Chicago Nike running shoe

Class Activity Come up with different choices for the following underlined words (next three slides). These choices are called synonyms. A synonym is a word that has the same or similar meaning to another word. A few have been completed for you.

Activity Change the following sentences by eliminating all be verbs. Also, make the sentences more specific. 1. The sun set while we were at the beach. 2. It’s okay; things will get better. 3. I told my parents I was staying at a friend’s house.
