4 Course Format 4  Allowed 10 minutes break per hour of teaching  Course Time: 12:15-4:05 PM  We’ll break from 2:00- 2:15 (ish) PM  We’ll generally go to ~ 4 PM to allow time for after class questions & Team interactions. (if that’s OK with the class)

12 Objectives 12  Appreciate the strategic role of operations in all types of organizations.  Understand the importance of links between customer needs, sustainability, and operations design.  Describe the ways in which the operations function interacts with other functions.  Identify opportunities in operations for sustainability improvements.

19 Participation & Attendance 19  Participation is key!  You learn in proportion to what you put into this class.  Lots of opportunities to get involved  Class attendance is expected.  Poor attendance can affect your participation grade since this is an experiential class.  If you anticipate missing a class, I would appreciate if you would let me know about the situation in advance.

20 Class Etiquette 20 Electronic device use in class is discouraged unless it applies to class. Calculating devices will be very helpful for in-class exercises, Phones should be turned off for class periods unless used as a calculator, Please be respectful of your classmates and professor by listening when they are talking and not creating side conversations.

21 REQUIRED MATERIALS 21  Text: Meredith & Schafer (2013). Operations Management for MBAs 5 th Edition (or 4 th ). Available at PSU bookstore or through other booksellers ($78 for paperback; $46 for Kindle)  Required: Pullman, M. and M. Sauter (2012). “Sustainability Delivered: Designing Socially and Environmentally Responsible Supply Chains.” Business Expert Press Publishing. Available through Amazon in paperback ($20) or Kindle ($12).  Course Case & Reading Packet available at CleanCopy on Broadway.  Littlefield Technologies Simulation Littlefield Technologies, Responsive Learning Technologies. The Simulation Access Code is purchased on-line and each student needs an access code or he or she cannot get credit for the assignment.  A calculating device should be brought to class every day.

22 Littlefield Team Formation 22  You will need to have your team formed by end of class. (4 people)  You will need to get your Littlefield Code and each team member should sign on.  Agree on team name and team password  Each student must purchase an individual access code. A link to the virtual store is provided on the team registration page. It takes students to http://mgr.responsive.net/Manager/ShowClient. Your institution name is "Portland State University".
