9 If you took a field trip to the zoo what kinds of animals would be there?
Would the zoo more fun if it had all kinds of different animals or only one type, like all monkeys? What if there were only tigers in the zoo, would it be as exciting as having many animals?

10 Well in the time of the Dinosaurs, it was the same as a fun zoo, many animals lived on the earth! There were many dinosaurs– but they were all different kinds with different shapes and even sizes

11 T-Rex Tyrannosaurus’ comes from the Greek words meaning ‘tyrant lizard’, while the word ‘rex’ means ‘king’ in Latin. Tyrannosaurus rex is often called T-Rex. They are Carnivores Tyrannosaurus rex lived in an area of the Earth that now makes up western North America. Tyrannosaurus rex walked on two legs, balancing its huge head with a long and heavy tail Tyrannosaurus rex could weigh up to 7 tons! They were the largest Dinosaurs of their time

12 The Stegosaurus is the most famous dinosaur from a group of dinosaurs known as Stegosauria.
They were all herbivores The name ‘Stegosaurus’ comes from the Greek words ‘stegos’ meaning roof and ‘sauros’ meaning lizard. The Stegosaurus was alive in the late Jurassic Period (around 150 million years ago) Stegosaurus fossils have been found in western North America The Stegosaurus was large and heavily built. Although the Stegosaurus body was large, the size of their brain was only around the size of a dog’s. Scientists say because they had short stubby legs they were most likely slow The Stegosaurus had tail spikes and spikes along its back Stegosaurs

13 The name ‘Triceratops’ comes from the Greek language, with ‘tri’ meaning three and ‘keratops’ meaning horned face Triceratops lived in the late Cretaceous Period (around 65 million years ago). The Triceratops have a large body, unique frill and three horns It needed its three horns to try and protect itself from the Tyrannosaurus Rex Scientists think they weighed anywhere between 6 to 12 tons. The skull of a Triceratops were very big! The Triceratops was a Herbivore.. Which means what? Triceratops had anywhere between 400 and 800 teeth Triceratops

14 Herbivore means plant eater

15 Canivore means meat eater

16 Apatosaurus lived in the Jurassic Period (around 150 million years ago)
The Apatosaurus is one of the largest animals to have ever walked on Earth They weigh over 23 tons According to studies, it took an Apatosaurus only around 10 years to reach its full size. Apatosaurus had long whip-like tails and very long necks Apatosaurus were herbivores Which means what? Their nickname is Long Neck Apatosaurus

17 1. How many horns did Triceratops have?
2. True or false? The name dinosaur means ‘terrible lizard’ 3. A person who studies fossils and prehistoric life such as dinosaurs is known as a what? 4. True or false? Birds evolved from dinosaurs. 5. What is a Herbivore? 6. True or False? A Carnivore is a plant eater

18 Triceratops has THREE HORNS
TRUE- Dinosaur does mean terrible lizard A person who studies the fossils is known as a PALENTOLOGIST TRUE- birds did evolve from Dinosaurs A Herbivore is a PLANT EATER FALSE- Carnivores eat meat

19 Scientists believe that Birds came from Dinosaurs---- Dinosaurs are like Birds Great great great great great grandparents!

20

21 A paleontologist is a person who studies FOSSILS!
What is a Paleontologist? A paleontologist is a person who studies FOSSILS!

23 Works cited

24 Why Did they go extinct? Noone knows for sure why the Dinosaurs went extinct, but some people believe that either: Ash and gas spewing from volcanoes suffocated many of the dinosaurs Diseases wiped out entire populations of dinosaurs A meteorite crashed into Earth, changing the climatic conditions so the dinosaurs could not survive Food chain imbalances lead to the starvation of the dinosaurs

25 Extinct- means no longer existing or living
Gone, dead, wiped out, no more
