A LEAP TOWARDS THE FUTURE of SOLAR BASED POLE LIGHTS WITH LITHIUM BATTERIES

A Venture of JML POLYFAB. We have manufactured a Solar celled Street Pole Light, with Unique Features, The most important being the elimination of LEAD ACID Batteries, and replacing them with Small Sized Lithium batteries, which are usually very light weight and are used in Mobile Phones etc. Usually Solar Based Street Lights are powered by LEAD ACID Batteries, which are very Difficult to maintain. These Lead Acid batteries demand frequent Maintenance like : Top Up of Acid, Cleaning/Greasing of Terminals, Installation/Maintenance of Boxes on Poles to hold these Batteries. Cable connection from PV cell to Battery Terminal etc. They are vulnerable to theft, and are an environmental Hazard. They also have a very low Duty Cycle of 500 nos only.. Which means that an average Battery has a life of appx 2.5 Years. As compared to Lithium batteries, which has 2000 cycle life (DOD). These batteries have a built-in BMS (Battery Management Switch) which compulsorily stores at least 10 % of its Power as reserve, to enable a quick Recharge commencement. Whereas Lead Acid batteries,if Discharged totally, would require a visit to the Battery Workshop for recharging. It is therefore evident that Lithium Batteries have many Advantages over Lead Acid Batteries.

The exploded view All important components Like Controller, Lithium battery, LED Panel etc. Are encased inside the FRP Box rendering the critical components safe in All weather conditions, And easy to maintain.

Salient Features of SUNARC SOLAR BASED STREET LIGHTS After eliminating this battery problem, we designed an FRP Box, which would Act as the Main Street Light, and will contain the following: Photo Voltaic Cell LED lights Panel. LED Lights Controller Lithium Battery Multi- Dimensional Clamp (To help install the Light on almost all types of Poles, - 40mm dia ̴ 100mm Dia) All these important components are encased in this FRP Box, with the Solar PV cell on the TOP Side facing the SUN, LED Lights grouped Panel at the Bottom. All other components like the Battery & Controller encased safely sealed inside the FRP Box. The completed light assembly encased in FRP Box weighs just 3.8Kgs and can withstand the harshest weather conditions. Appx -10° ̴ 50°c. and torrential rains.

COMPARISONS Although SUNARC lights cannot be compared to Street Lights available in the Market today, still some features need a mention in this presentation: SUNARC lights are very cost effective in view of the advantages offered by it. They are available in the range of Rs.14500.00 to 16500.00. They are manufactured as “FIT & FORGET” lights. “SUNARC”lights do not need special fixing clamps for Light Poles, and can be fitted on the existing poles. “SUNARC” lights start paying back to the purchaser the moment they are fitted. “SUNARC” lights can also be used as EMERGENCY LAMPS in case of Electrical emergencies. “SUNARC “lights components are very easy to replace, even by untrained Persons. “SUNARC” street lights are Light weight, and can be easily transported. “SUNARC” street lights do not use Lead & ACID, thus are environ friendly, The encasing of Components in the FRP Box also eliminate any Electrical Hazards, towards Petroleum Fumes /Explosives etc. FRP Encasing BOX is immune to weathering and is rust free. Hence no maintenance. “SUNARC” lights can be used as Garden Lighting, Dark Areas, YARD Lighting, Fencing Lighting, Security lighting etc. These lights never depend on Board power supplies.
