PHY343: Group project format Groups of (5 +/- 1) students Random group assignment SAME project for all Content of PHY343 is generated by YOU Few lectures / events self- motivated work Support by website, helpline, drop- in clinics, cohort events.

Technology survey (20%) In week 25 Feb to 1 March, fix date with academic assessor. Group/assessor assignments by email soon. Every group member attends and contributes, use ppt’s, speak in turns. STRICTLY 20 minutes in total, no more! List available technologies that relate to project aim, give physical working principles Do not yet design a costed, joined- up system Expect detailed feedback from assessor

Report (30%) (2000 +/- 200) words, include word count Structured, illustrated, referenced… 2 parts: 1. Coherent overview over complete concept 2. in- depth scientific description of your contribution 2 hardcopies to Phys&Maths student office by Fri 17 May am Electronic copy to Turnitin

Project diary & Peer assessment (30%) Project diary: Similar to lab book, keep one from day 1, keep a record of all your PHY343- related activities. Electronic diaries OK, but submit on DVD (not a hyperlink!) Peer assessment: Rate your fellow group members’ contribution from(-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3) (worst to best) ZERO SUM rating: Peer assessment ratings must add up to zero. Exclude yourself. Rating form to be circulated. Submit both to Phys&Maths student office by Fri 17 May am, together with reports.

Project presentation (20%) Presentation Fri 17 May, 2pm, Hicks D17 (1 st yr lab) Present project work in A1 (portrait) poster Prepare as ppt, instructions on poster printing to be circulated Group attends poster, discuss with academics
