Energy is the ability to do work or cause a change in direction, speed, shape or temperature of an object.
3
Energy comes in many forms: Electrical Chemical Sound Thermal Nuclear Mechanical Gravitational
4
All energy can be grouped into: Potential Defined as the energy the matter of an object has. (stored energy) Kinetic Defined as the energy of a moving object.
5
Potential: While work is waiting to be done, when there is potential for work to be performed, we call it potential energy.
6
An object can store energy: By lifting it up: Gravitational Potential Energy By stretching or squashing it: Elastic Potential Energy
7
An object can increase its potential energy: IIncrease the object’s weight. IIncrease the height an object is raised to.
9
Potential Energy often turns into Kinetic Energy
10
Kinetic Energy is the energy of motion (movement). When work is actually being done we call it kinetic energy. Moving objects have energy:
11
Kinetic Energy is measured by how much work is done to change an object’s motion. Mass and velocity both affect kinetic energy. Higher Velocity = Higher Kinetic Energy Mass and velocity both affect kinetic energy. Higher Velocity = Higher Kinetic Energy

Assignment: Create a mind map all about kinetic and potential energy. You must include at least 5 pictures for each type of energy.
