2 The regulation of steady- life maintaining conditions inside of an organism A balance system Ex- regulation of breathing or heartbeat

3 Basic unit is called a neuron

4 Dendrites- receive impulses from other neurons and send them to the cell body Axons- carry impulses away from the cell body. They have a branching end that allows the impulses to move to many other muscles, neurons, or glands

5 A small space between neurons Impulses move from neuron to neuron by a chemical release across the synapse

6 Brain Spinal chord

7 made up of all the nerves outside the CNS It connects the brain and spinal chord to other body parts

8 Coordinates all of your activities Three major parts the brain stem (connects brain to spinal chord) cerebrum (largest part) cerebellum (coordinates muscle movements)
