DATA SOURCES Deaths: Data obtained from Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Alberta Includes 4-wheeled ATVs (does include utility vehicles side-by-side) deaths occurring within Alberta of Alberta residents Death date between January 1, 2002 and December 31, 2013 Major Trauma: Data was provided by the Alberta Trauma Registry. The Alberta Trauma Registry includes injuries with a severity score >=12. The injury severity score is an internationally recognized scoring system developed to assign a level of severity to an injury. The higher the score there is an increase in severity and mortality. Hospital Admissions and Emergency Department Visits: Data obtained from Alberta Health Interactive Database Includes ATV-related hospital admissions and emergency department visits with admission/visit date between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2013 Data is not corrected for the number of ATV participants, the number of kilometers driven, the number of hours riding, the number of used/registered ATVs

FARM RELATED-DEATHS ALBERTA, 2002-2013 There were 17 farm activity-related deaths or deaths specifically documented having occurred on a farm 5 deaths involved herding/moving animals 4 were children less than 16 yrs of age all were drivers Majority, 14 deceased were not wearing a helmet. Only 1 was wearing a helmet and in 2 deaths helmet use was unknown.
