2.  Its located in the Gulf of Mexico near Mississippi River Delta  Spill date: 20 April – 15 July 2010 Well officially sealed: 19 September 2010  It lasted 87 days

3.  The chemicals in oil that are of most concern to humans are called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Some of these are known to cause cancer.

4.  The Gulf oil spill is recognized as the worst oil spill in U.S. history. Within days of the April 20, 2010 explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico, underwater cameras revealed the BP pipe was leaking oil and gas on the ocean floor about 42 miles off the coast of Louisiana.

5.  Due to the months-long spill, along with adverse effects from the response and cleanup activities, extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and fishing and tourism industries were reported

8.  New methods on determining the flow rate of spills were developed and quicker methods to test for contamination in marine animals were developed and validated by the FDA.
