Online Learning Modules How WE can use Online Learning Modules to help fill instructional gaps and support a culture of meaningful, authentic student learning at our school.
2
Why Now? As technology advances so does the knowledge of today’s students. We need to use our students knowledge to their advantage. Online Learning Modules utilize today’s technology to our benefit.
3
What is an Online Learning Module? OLM’s are internet-based learning systems that educators use to create virtual online classrooms. OLM’s allow teachers to offer access to classroom learning 24/7/365! – ANYTIME/ANYWHERE! OLM’s are a technology rich environment that is accessible and engaging.
4
Assignments: Use to submit any file type of format from written essays to picture files to video recordings. Chat: Allows your students to chat in real-time about subject matter and assignment ideas. Discussions: Have whole group or small groups online discussions allowing students to offer ideas and perform discussions without the restraints of in-class pressure. Glossary: Display terms that your students may need as a resource or reminder for content terms.
5
Journaling: Have your students keep running records of their learning to revise, record, and reflect. Lessons: Create online lessons to offer make-up work, support opportunities, and extended learning levels. Quizzes: Create quizzes students can take as study guides, pressure/time constraint free testing, or to offer quick assessment opportunities or even simple surveys. Resources: Display supportive content and learning resources in multiple file types for students to use outside of the classroom. Sharing: Allows students to share work and offer assessment and technical advice.

What if students don’t have access? Anything created using an online module can be reprinted in hard-copy. Burned and shown as a DVD or through USB connections. Connected to your Promethean Boards to use within the classroom setting. OLM’s can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection. (Such as our Computer Lab).

If you are going to create lessons anyways, why not put them online so you have a hardcopy for future needs. STUDENT KNOWLEGE? Most of today’s students have more technology background than their teachers and those who do not can learn to use OLM quickly in our classroom computer labs.
