Definition The midpoint of a line segment is the point halfway between the endpoints of the line segment. It is written as a coordinate and is usually denoted by the letter M.

Formula The midpoint of the line segment connecting 2 points (x 1, y 1 ) and (x 2, y 2 ) is given by: Midpoint of a line segment = Note: Label the first coordinate (x 1, y 1 ) and the second coordinate (x 2, y 2 ) before you substitute the values for x 1, y 1, x 2 and y 2 into the formula.
