My Project For this project you will need to conduct research and write an information essay about one of the following places:

The Great Wall of China

Maccu Picchu (in Peru)

The Colosseum (in Rome) Carthage (Tunisia)

Angkor Watt (in Cambodia)

Stonehenge (England)

Petra (Jordan)

Your Choice You can also choose another place that has a historical site, but NOT Egypt or the UAE. However, if you want to choose your own, you need to bring in THREE pieces of GOOD research about this site BEFORE you can do your own topic.

What makes good research? Appropriate reading level ! Don’t just print the first reading you find. Make sure it is at your reading level Lots of information Search for specific facts, like “history AND Easter Island”, not just “Easter Island” Interesting Make sure it is interesting to you! Different sources Use the internet, magazines, books, etc.

How will I be graded? You will plan for your essay in the next two weeks. You will write the essay IN CLASS during week 8. You will be graded on: Organization / Structure منظمة Content مضمون Language Skills قواعد

Organization / Structure منظمة Essay has introduction, body and conclusion Paragraphs are broken down by topic and clearly formatted Each paragraph has a topic sentence Thesis (main idea) is included in the introduction / conclusion

Content مضمون Essay is within the given word count (200 to 300 words) Many different ideas and facts are presented about the topic The essay makes global, cultural and personal connection Essay uses appropriate Grade 12 – level vocabulary

Language Skills قواعد The following grammar features must be correct: Capital letters and full stops Spelling Subject-verb agreement Verb tense (present / past) A mix of simple, compound and complex sentences used

PRESENTATIONS

For your presentation, you will be running a travel booth. You must talk about your location and try and convince girls to travel there. You should tell people about the main attraction in your country. You also want to talk about the food, culture, and language of the place you want people to visit.

How Will I Be Graded? Speaking ( تكلم ) Delivery & Vocabulary Content Presentation Skills

Speaking ( تكلم ) Delivery & Vocabulary Speaks in a clear, loud voice Uses Grade 12 – level vocabulary Correct pronunciation

Content Presentation aids (PowerPoint, diagrams, visuals, props, brochures, handouts, or anything else you think will help other students understand your presentation) Makes connection to the UAE, personal life, or global community

Presentation Skills Makes eye contact with audience members throughout the presentation Uses professional body language (standing straight, pointing to visual aids, using hands to explain something) Shows confidence ( الثقة ) Presentation is between 5 and 10 minutes

What do I need to bring to my presentation? You can bring anything you like to make your booth interesting! Decorations Brochures Artifacts from your country Newspaper articles from your country Pictures Fake airline tickets from the UAE Travel itinerary (schedule for each day’s travel) Anything else you like!!!
