2 Software – P Chart Demo Step 1. Type in Data Column A – time period Column B – numerator Column C - denominator

4 QI Charts Software – P Chart Demo Step 3. Under Type of Chart – Select P Chart For Data Range – While Cursor is Flashing, Take Mouse and Highlight All you Data include Row 2 (Headers) but not Row 1 Click First Row Contains Headers Click Next

5 QI Charts Software – P Chart Demo Step 4. Index Column – choose Months (this is subgroups along the bottom) X Values – choose Patients Returned (this is your numerator) N Values – choose # of Surgeries (this is your denominator or “N”) Click Next

6 QI Charts Software – P Chart Demo Step 5. Format in Excel For this chart you will need to change the X axis Double Click on X axis – change the maximum from 1.0 (100%) to.05 (5%)

27 Xbar and S charts The bottom chart is optional It shows how the variation (within each time period) is changing over time In June, there appears to be more variation within that month – but it is not Special Cause – so we could say that the variation between each month is stable
