Nursing AAS-T; Pre-Nursing DTA; RN to BSN-UW Bothell What are my options and do these all apply to me?

Three distinct program options… Nursing AAS-T Pre- Nursing DTA RN to BSN-UW Bothell With three distinct purposes…

It all sounds like “nursing” to me… Each of these programs provides options to LWIT students that will serve their academic and professional needs in unique ways. It is important to understand the differences and choose your plan of action carefully. Questions about the overlap in these programs is one of the most frequent and confusing discussions during selective admissions advising. So, let’s unravel this piece by piece…

Nursing AAS-T The degree received after students have taken two years of coursework to prepare to become an RN. Students must apply and be selected to enter this program at LWIT. Prerequisite GPA, TEAS scores, plus optional work experience and prior education are considered during selection. In order to work as an RN, students must pass the NCLEX after receiving this degree.

Pre Nursing DTA AAS (Direct Transfer Agreement) A degree received after completing a list of general education courses Any student may start this program. You do not have to apply; there is no selective or competitive element involved. Stated Degree Purpose: Graduate with this AAS so that you may apply to transfer to a BSN program at one of ten participating schools in WA state (UW- Bothell is excluded) Ancillary use of the Pre Nursing DTA AAS Degree or Degree Status: 1.All Nursing, Dental Hygiene and PTA prereqs. and co-reqs. are embedded in the DTA’s list of courses, thus presenting Financial Aid benefit if under this degree status 2.Applicants to our Nursing AAS T program may finish the Pre Nursing DTA AAS in order to earn points for “prior education” on the selective admission application 3.Unsuccessful applicants to our Nursing AAS T program may use this degree as a back up plan by using it to apply to transfer to a BSN program at one of ten participating schools in WA state

RN to BSN Bridge Program-UW Bothell The degree option open to students who have graduated from our Nursing AAS T program, have passed the NCLEX Exam and are licensed for practice as a RN in the State of WA. This BSN can be finished in one full-time year or two, part-time. Its focus is management with some clinical coursework This bridge option is UW Bothell specific. Students must meet Bridge Program requirements specified above and UW general admission requirements Future UW Bothell nursing students should make sure that they complete all admission requirements for admission to the RN-to-BSN Program. It is particularly useful to make an appointment to speak to a UW Bothell Admissions Advisor to discuss your educational plan, so you are sure you are completing everything necessary for admission to the UW Bothell Nursing Program before you transfer. 7 Choosing your best option… If your primary goal is to get a BSN degree: Meet with a General Adviser to set up a class plan for the Pre Nursing DTA AAS Degree. You do not need to apply to start working on this degree, you can start immediately! This degree is a gateway to applying to transfer to 10 participating WA state BSN schools. If you are a future applicant to the Nursing AAS T program (RN program) at LWIT but want additional prior education points: Complete the Pre Nursing DTA AAS before applying to the RN program. If you are an unsuccessful applicant to the Nursing AAS T program at LWIT and want a back up plan: Consider the Pre Nursing DTA AAS degree if not already completed for prior education points. Review the list of courses required to finish out the degree. Apply to one or more of the 10 participating WA state BSN schools. If you are a graduate of LWIT’s Nursing AAS T program, have passed the NCLEX and are a licensed RN in WA state: Consider applying to the RN to BSN bridge program at UW Bothell as the next step in your professional journey.
