2. Introduction to DNA Testing
Thousands of individuals in jails today have been wrongly accused of crimes that they did not commit.
More than 250 people in 34 states have been exonerated due to DNA tests after their convictions.

3. The Innocence Project
The Innocence Project is an organization that was formed in 1992 created in affiliation to Benjamin N. Cardozo.
This national organization is specifically designed to dedicating their time to exonerating wrongly convicted individuals through DNA testing
More than 20,000 people in prison are innocent, and we will never know until we justify their innocence through DNA testing procedures.

4. The Innocence Project (Cont.)
There are a variety of factors that contribute to why innocent victims are charged as guilty.
Some factors include:
Eyewitness misidentification
Improper forensics
False confessions
About 75% of wrongful convictions are due to misidentification, 50% are from invalid forensics, and false confessions included 25%.

5. LA Sheriff Commits $3 Million Towards Untouched Rape Kits
Sheriff Lee Baca of Los Angeles County has agreed to entrust over 3 million dollars to the testing of physical evidence in DNA rape kits.
283 rape kits were untouched from back at the original crime scene, and were recently inspected and tested; leading to 8 new arrests.

6. Freddie Lee Pitts: From Death Row to Freedom
Freddie Lee Pitts and Wilbert Lee were both African American males wrongly convicted of murdering 2 white gas station attendants in 1963.
Weeks after they were sentenced to death for a crime they did not commit, a white man, already in prison for another crime, admitted to both of the murders.
The original eyewitness recanted her statement. The polygraph analyst admitted to extracting unlawful confessions. The attorney general admitted to claiming false information was gathered from the 2 men.
Pitts and Lee were both pardoned by the governor, granted 500,000 dollars each, and released in 1975, after serving 12 unlawful years in prison.

7. Conclusion
Every wrongfully convicted victim serves an average of 12 years in prison.
Countless individuals will never be able to get back those years of their lives, and it was all because the government didn’t provide enough money or time to figure out the case.
You can never place a price on someone’s life.
