8 Review What is osmosis? Osmosis is the movement of water across a semi-permeable membrane from high solvent concentration to low solvent concentration Water always moves from where there is relatively more water to relatively less water

Vinegar has been used to dissolve the shell of the two eggs 1 egg will be placed in fresh water for at least 24 hours What type of solution is fresh water? What do you predict will happen to the egg? 1 egg will be placed in corn syrup for at least 24 hours What type of solution is corn syrup? Introduction: A chicken egg can be viewed as a single cell, although it technically is not. The membrane surrounding the yolk and under the shell is semi-permeable. In this class demonstration, the shells have been removed from two eggs. We will place one egg in fresh water and one egg in corn syrup for 24 hours. Food coloring will also be added to the water. Our goal is to investigate the effects of two solutions—fresh water and corn syrup—with different solute concentrations on the egg.
