Clarify the meaning of “measurable objective.” Re-evaluate objectives you have written and work to enhance them and make them measureable.

An objective is NOT a goal An objective is a statement which specifies, in measurable terms, the activity we expect our students to accomplish as a result of our instruction. Include 12 Power Words in objectives when at all possible. Otherwise use Bloom’s Taxonomy. A measurable objective answers: Who, what, how, when

Goal › Students will gain understanding of the components of a persuasive essay. (broad description of what they need to accomplish) Objective › Students will analyze information to judge which position to take on an argument by filling in a graphic organizer chart by the end of the period. › Students will be able to construct a six paragraph persuasive essay that follows the guidelines in the rubric within a 45-minute timed writing session. (specific step students need to take to accomplish goal)

› 100% of teachers who view this presentation will implement the use of well-written measurable objectives in their lesson plans by November 28. › Students will use their notes and work with a partner for 20 minutes to fill out their graphic organizer in which they compare and contrast two historical time periods. › Students will apply their knowledge of the Pythagorean Theorem to solve 3 equations during the 15 minute practice problem session.

Who can finish first? You have 3 minutes to read the following 3 goals and create a measurable objective for each. Make sure you use a 12 power word in your objectives! Students will create a power point. Students will conduct an experiment Students will define key terms.
