A timeline helps us to understand when and how things happened over a period of time. A dinosaur timeline shows us how long ago dinosaurs existed and when they became extinct.

Our planet was created a very long time age, exactly 4.6 billion years ago. That is a very big number, the same as 4,600 million years ago. 1 million = 1,000 000 years 4.6 billion = 4,600, 000 000

Where the dinosaurs the first animals to live on Earth? No, shellfish and fish came first. Next came insects and amphibians. Then some reptiles appeared. How do we know which animals appeared first? We know about the animals that lived millions of years ago with the help of fossils that are found all over the planet.

The third and last period was called the Cretaceous Period which lasted till around 65 million years ago when the dinosaurs became extinct. This means that they disappeared or died out.

The first dinosaurs to roam the Earth appeared around 245 million years ago. This was called the Triassic Period. Dinosaurs of the Triassic Period were smaller than the ones that came later.

The next period in the history of the dinosaurs was called the Jurassic Period. Jurassic dinosaurs were huge. They were the biggest animals to ever roam our planet. This is when the first birds appeared.
