Noun A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.

Common and Proper Nouns A common noun names a person, place, thing, or idea. A proper noun names a particular person, place, things, or idea and begins with a capital letter.

Write common if the underlined word in each sentence is a common noun. Write proper if it is a proper noun. Title your paper Common and Proper Nouns and do 1-6. 1. Morgan Boulevard is a busy street. 2. We went on vacation to Oregon last year. 3. Did you see Kevin at the party? 4. Laura and Emily sang a song at the town meeting. 5. The car stopped quickly. 6. Volunteers for 4-H clubs donate time and money.

For number 7-8 under Common and Proper Nouns, write one sentence using two common nouns and one proper noun.

Singular and Plural Nouns A singular noun names only one person, place, thing, or idea. A plural noun names more than one person, place, thing, or idea.

Plural Nouns Add s to most singular nouns to make them plural. pencils books vegetables basketballscars

Plural Nouns Add es to a singular noun that ends in s, x, ch, and sh, foxes dishes glasses sandwiches brushes

Plural Nouns If the noun ends in a vowel and a y, add s. keys highways toys monkeys boys

Plural Nouns If a noun ends in a consonant and a y, change the y to an i and add es puppy ies puppies lady ies ladies bunny ies bunnies

On the back of the same sheet, title your paper Singular and Plural Nouns. Then whether the underlined nouns are singular or plural for numbers 1-7? 1. You can have half of my pizza. 2. Please put all of the bottles outside. 3. Mom bought a loaf of bread. 4. The blueberries stained my shirt. 5. I will cut the apple into halves. 6. Did you see the baby fox ? 7. My neighbor's dog just had puppies.

Some plurals do not follow the rules. Adding an s, es, or ies to the singular form of the noun does not make it plural. child children foot feet tooth teeth goose geeseshelf shelves
