Go Backward to Go Forward Go to the end of your essay. Read each word individually from the last word to the first word. If the word doesn’t look right, correct it. If you can’t correct it, think of another word you can use instead.

Hear It Bob was a great guy. We really liked him alot. I used to hand out with him when we were teenagers. Read the sentences above out loud. When you read it out loud, does it make sense? If it doesn’t, what needs to happen to fix it. The big trick is to read it as it is written, not how you THINK it is written. Read each word the way it is written.

Homework Take the time to know how words are spelled. On the writing resource page, there is a link to the thousand most used words in the English Language. There is also a link to the 100 most commonly misspelled words in the English Language. Sometimes the best way to learn is to just memorize as many of these words as you can.
