What does a seed need to grow?
1. Water 2. Space 3. Sunlight 4. Soil
4
Seeds contain new plants
*A seed is the start of a new plant *The have different shapes, sizes and colors *Flowers make seeds *Covered in a seed coat to protect and keeps tiny leaves and root inside *Contains food for the new plant
5
How does a plant grow? Stage 1 A seed is planted in the soil. Stage 2
The seed germinates. Roots start growing down into the soil. Stage 3 The roots grow longer and a stem pushes up out of the ground.
6
Stage 4 The plant grows leaves and starts to make its own food. Stage 5 Full-grown plant Leaves, stems, flowers and roots Now it can reproduce and make new seeds
7
How does a plant make seeds?
A flower has 2 parts that help it make seeds, a male and female part. The male part makes pollen. The female part makes tiny eggs. When the two parts come together, a seed can form.

Review!!!! In your group put the following plant stages in order. Use your strips. *The roots grow longer and the stem pushes up out of the soil. *Full grown plant. Now it can reproduce and make seeds. *The seed germinates and roots start growing down into the soil. *The plant grows leaves and starts to make its own food. *A seed is planted in the soil.

Check your work!!!! 1. A seed is planted in the soil.
2. The seed germinates and roots start growing down into the soil. 3. The roots grow longer and the stem pushes up out of the soil. 4. The plant grows leaves and starts to make its own food. 5. Full grown plant. Now it can reproduce and make seeds.

Let’s see a seed in action
This is a video of a radish seed from seed to harvest in 33 days.

Let’s observe a seed Each group will be given a water soaked seed. You will need to do the following: Observe the outside of the seed and write your observations in your journal. Gently open the seed. If you need help, raise your hand. Observe what you see on the inside of the seed. Write your observations in your journal and make a sketch of the inside. Using your book, label the parts of the seed on your sketch.

Thumbs up! Great job! Thumbs up/Thumbs Down
If the statement is true=Thumbs up If the statement is false=Thumbs down 1. A seed is a structure that can grow into a new plant. Thumbs up! Great job!
15
The fruit holds and protects the seeds of a plant.
Thumbs up/Thumbs Down 2. The purpose of fruit is to taste good. Thumbs down! Great job! The fruit holds and protects the seeds of a plant.
16
Thumbs down! Great job! Thumbs up/Thumbs Down
3. The embryo comes out of the seed and the young plant is known as an adult. Thumbs down! Great job! A young plant is called an seedling. A seedling can grow into an adult plant.

Thumbs up! Great job! Thumbs up/Thumbs Down
4. Seed can travel through the wind, on animals, or even on your socks. Thumbs up! Great job!

True-False-Prove It When you get your True-False Prove it worksheet. You will read each statement. After each statement you will check the true or false box. You will need to look in your book for the page to prove it. Do not just write the page number, justify it in words. Example: A flower is just to make a flower pretty. This statement is false. You will find this on page 82. It says that; Flowers look pretty and smell sweet. They also do an important job. A flower is a plant structure that makes seeds.
