Structure Scouting in local community – what are the benefits for Scouts and benefits for the community? What are the barriers for more Scout invovlement in the community. Exmaples-best practices of successful community invovlement of scouts. Identification of stakeholders in the coomunity and cooperation with them. Building partnerships and coalitions with relevant structures in the community.

Benefits of Scouting in Local Community Benefits for Scouting: -Increased visibility of Scouting -Developing the image of Scouting -Recognition of Scouting as an educational movement -Establishment of partnerships -Recruitment of adult volunteers -Recruitment of new members -Increased capacities of the Scout organisations -Increased fundraising capacity -More funds

Benefits of Scouting in Local Community Benefits for Communities: -Increased citizen involvement -Bigger number of citizens involved -More responsible citizens -Greater efficiency in use of resources -Cheaper services provided in the community -Increased capacity of community leadership -Increased accountability of all parties -Better quality of life in the community

Barriers for Scouting in Local Community -Do not know how to do it -Not quite ready to be open for others -Lack of trust between possible partners -Lack of information sharing -Lack of strategy for community involvement -Competition -Risk of being “labelled” by someone

Identification of stakeholders Community involvement is all about working with stakeholders! Stakeholders are individuals or organsations who stand to gain or lose from the success or failure of a system (Nuseibeh and Eastbrook, 2000) -Those that are impacted by (or have an impact on) the project. -Their perspectives have to be taken into account -Can have positive or negative views regarding a given project
