How to Create a Blog using WordPress

How to use this module There are four sections to this module. – Overview of a blog – How to create a blog (video) – Copyright info – Quick Tool – Evaluation It is suggested that you take notes during the first three sections. You will then use these notes and the Quick Tool to complete the assessment. Part of the assessment is to create a public blog. If you get stuck you may go back and rerun the video.

What is a blog? A blog (a truncation of the expression “weblog”) is a discussion or informational site published on the web and consisting of discrete entries called “posts” displayed in reverse chronological order (wikipedia) A blog features diary-type commentary and links to articles on other websites. Many blogs focus on a particular topic, such as web design, home staging, sports, or mobile technology. Some are more eclectic, presenting links to all types of other sites. And others are more like personal journals, presenting the author's daily life and thoughts. (Wordpress)

Components of a Blog A main content area with articles listed chronologically, newest on top. Often, the articles are organized into categories. An archive of older articles. A way for people to leave comments about the articles. A list of links to other related sites, sometimes called a "blogroll". One or more "feeds" like RSS, Atomfeeds

What is a Copyright? A form of protection provided by the laws of the United States for "original works of authorship", including literary, dramatic, musical, architectural, cartographic, choreographic, pantomimic, pictorial, graphic, sculptural, and audiovisual creations. "Copyright" literally means the right to copy but has come to mean that body of exclusive rights granted by law to copyright owners for protection of their work. Copyright protection does not extend to any idea, procedure, process, system, title, principle, or discovery. Similarly, names, titles, short phrases, slogans, familiar symbols, mere variations of typographic ornamentation, lettering, coloring, and listings of contents or ingredients are not subject to copyright. (gov) Copyright attaches as soon as the original work is created, and applies to both published and unpublished works. As soon as you type words, click the shutter on your camera (or, for many of you, hit the home button on your iPhone), apply paint to canvas or paper or lay down tracks for your next hit, you’ve got a copyright (with some exceptions). Copyright is an automatic right and does not require the author to file special paperwork, as is the case for trademark and patent. Registration is required to enforce the rights, but as a matter of right, an author is not required to register anything to get the right to use the “circle c,” showing the work is copyrighted.
