Prep Plan at School We will be re-teaching all 3 rd grade CCSS for reading and math. We will teach a mini-lesson on a specific skill, complete guided practice problems together, and then students will complete problems independently to show their understanding. We are keeping track of mastery for all CCSS for each student. Students who do not show mastery of 80% or higher on their independent practice will be pulled into small group to be re-taught this skill. This will continue until hopefully the child has mastered that skill.

Prep Plan at Home Reading Students will complete one passage from their EOG book per week at home. These are due on Fridays. The last two weeks students will have two passages. We will go over in class. A schedule was sent out already to you. Please do not complete any other passages other than these, as we will need those for class use. Math Students will complete their math EOG book at school. For homework students will have to correct any problems they got wrong on their lesson practice. They will also be given a worksheet each night that is a direct reflection of the skill we taught from the EOG prep book that day.
12
What happens after the test? Test Results - We usually get the results the Friday after test day. You will be notified through mail how your child has done on the EOG exam. EOG Party - To celebrate all of students’ hard work to prepare for EOG’s, we will be having a third grade EOG party after EOG’s. The party will consist of pizza, a movie, and ice cream. Please contact your child’s teacher if your child cannot have either of these and needs to bring in something else. In order for students to participate, students must have completed all of their EOG prep class work and homework. We will be keeping track of this each week. The date of this party will be the week of/after EOG’s. We will let you know the date once we have the date set.

Test Taking Strategy - RUNNERS R ead the title, (and any introduction at the top) look at any graphics or pictures; scan and predict the text type; ask yourself: What is this selection going to be about? U nderline the important key words in the QUESTIONS as you read them. (ie. not, best, mostly, mainly) N umber the paragraphs in the selection N ow read the entire selection and monitor as you read… If something doesn’t make sense go back and re-read. Use clues in the text to determine tricky words! E liminate wrong answers as you read each question (There are usually 2 that are definitely incorrect and 2 that seem correct). R e-read part of the passage to find the answer. Underline or highlight in the text where you found the answer. Write down what paragraph you found the answer in next to the question. S elect your answer!

How can you help at home? Make sure your child is prepared each day and brings their EOG books to and from school. Make sure your child is completing their nightly homework from their EOG books. Check their homework for accuracy and help them go back and correct anything that is not correct. Correct items in their Thursday folders that come home not correct. Go to the EOG website for additional resources to practice at home. Encourage your child to be present in class. Be prepared each day, participate in class, ask questions, and let the teacher know when they don’t understand something. Nightly reading using question stems Practice multiplication/division facts Attend school regularly Good night’s sleep before test Eat a nutritious breakfast the day of the test Arrive to school on time the day of the test
