The History Of The Violin The violin is originally from Italy in the early 1500s. The earliest noted violin makers were Gasparo da Salò and Giovanni Maggini. How does a Violin Create Sound? A violin is a wooden, stringed instrument which is played by bowing. The violin creates sound when the bow is run across any one of its strings, this causes it to vibrate. The string's vibration is then passed to the wooden box, makes the sound. The sound can change by changing the length of the string. This is done by pushing the string against the fretboard with the finger and moving up and down the fretboard.
