Sarcophaguses are stone coffins. The word sarcophaguses means Flesh-Eater. Sarcophaguses could be rectangular and others were shaped like the human inside them. Very few, but some sarcophaguses were made of gold. An ancient Egyptian sarcophaguses were a very important part of the Egyptian afterlife.

Pyramids were built for a tomb of a wealthy man or pharoh. The first kind of pyramid was a mastaba. The first mastaba was built for King Zoser. His idea was to build one mastaba with a flat top. But then he got a idea to build another mastaba on top of the first mastaba. That is how pyramids got started.

Any ancient Egyptian that could afford being mummified after death would choose to become a mummy about 70 million mummies were made during a 3,000 time period. During the 4 th century AD, most Egyptians had chosen to become Christians and didn’t think mummification was not necessary anymore.
