Introduction Hot air balloon is to travel through the air in a bask et suspended below a large bag of heated air. The hot air balloon is the oldest successful human-carryin g flight technology. Hot air balloons that can be pro pelled through the air rather than just being pushed along by the wind are known as airships.

Data and Observation Time on Launcher (s)Time aloft-in air (s)Height (cm) 5 seconds1.8 seconds90 cm 10 seconds2.1 seconds120 cm 15 seconds1.9 seconds70 cm
4
Objectives and Standard Learning Objectives 1 - differentiate heat from temperature. 2 - Give the difference between heat and work 3 - Defind: a) specific heat b) heat capacity c) head of vaporization d) heat of fusion Standard 3a – Heat flow and work are two forms of energy transfer between systems
5
Problem and Hypothesis How would the hot air balloon be able to launch up to the air the highest ? If you make the inside of the balloon have more space, the hot air balloon will be able to launch up to the air the highest.
6
Materials 3 sheets of tissue Paper 1 glue stick Pair of scissors Ruler Stop watch
7
Plan and Design I tried to make my hot air balloon to a shape of a oval. That way there would be more space for the hot air inside the balloon.
8
Procedures Cut tissue papers in to 8 parts Glue tissue papers to form balloon shape Inside out Make skirt Make two-layers of circle (for the tip)
9
Conclusion Through this project, I was able to observe that Hot air balloon rises more if the inside has more space for the hot air. Since hot air goes up, and cold air goes down, If there is more hot air inside, then faster the hot air balloon will rise because there is more hot air trying to go up.
10
Summary and Reflection Through this project, I was able to find out how the hot air balloons work. Hot air rises and cold air goes down, this is pretty much how the hot air balloon works !
11
Physics of Hot Air Balloon The basis of how the balloon works is that warmer air rises in cooler air. This is because hot air is lighter than cool air as it has less mass per unit of volume. Mass can be defined by the measure of how much matter something contains
