In recorded history since 3600 BC, over major wars have killed close to 4 billion people - ⅔ of the current world population.

2 The United Kingdom has 240 000 troops.

3 …and is the 5th biggest arms exporter in the world with a 5% share of the legal global market.

4 America has 2.4 million troops.

5 …and is the world’s biggest arms exporter, it supplies around 40% of the developing world’s arms.

6 Since 1495, no twenty five year period has been without war.

7 The longest war was the so-called 100 years war between Britain and France. It actually lasted 116 years ending in 1453.

8 The shortest war on record took place in 1896 when Zanzibar surrendered to Britain after 38 minutes.

9 The total number of military and civilian casualties in World War I was over 35 million...

10 ...there were over 15 million deaths and 20 million wounded ranking it among the deadliest conflicts in human history...

11 John Condon, of the Royal Irish Regiment, a native of Waterford, was thought to have been the youngest allied soldier who died in the First World War, aged just 14.

29 Corporal Bryan Budd was awarded it, posthumously, for "inspirational leadership and the greatest valour" which led to his death, during actions against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

30 There are a number of ongoing military conflicts taking place around the world today, which continue to result in violent deaths for both civilians and the military.
