Irregular Verbs Some goofy verbs just don’t want to follow the rules. Most of the time, we can identify these words because they just don’t sound right to our ears: The movie begined at 6:00. The movie _________ at 6:00. I catched a cold because I didn’t wear my coat. I _________ a cold because I didn’t wear my coat. The good news is that the present and future tense are rule followers. That pesky past tense is the one that breaks the rules.

Irregular Verbs Sometimes the verb changes completely:
Present: I sing a tune to put myself in a good mood. Past: I sang Happy Birthday to my brother. Sometimes it stays the same as the present tense: Present: I show my pumpkin to the class, then set it down on my desk. Past: Last October, I came back from the farm and set the pumpkin on my desk.
