Prayer (2) Dr. Joseph Chang 2/14/2015 Bread of Life Great Park Church
2
Matthew 6:5-15 5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
3
Matthew 6:5-15 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
4
Matthew 6:5-15 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.' 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 ut if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

3 prayers for God: God’s name, God’s kingdom, God’s will. 3 prayers for us: our needs, our forgiveness, our temptation.
7
I. Give us today our daily bread. Not “Give us this day tomorrow’s bread!” Not “Give us this year life time’s bread!” But “Give us this day our daily bread!”
8
Is it possible to store a lifetime supply of food? 40 years, 29,000 cans 20 pallets, each 1 person height
9
I. Give us today our daily bread. A. Learn not to have anxiety We do not need to carry the load of lifelong supply along our lifelong journey.
10
I. Give us today our daily bread. B. Learn trust and dependence on God daily.
11
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. 9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard? When will you get up from your sleep? 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest-- 11 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. 【 Prov 6:6~11 】
12
I. Give us today our daily bread. C. Learn gratitude to God.
13
II. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. A.Forgive : trespasses, debts, sins NLT (New Living Translation) “forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” TNT (Tyndale’s New Testament) “And forgeve vs oure treaspases even as we forgeve oure trespacers.
14
II. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. B. This seems to be very vital in our prayer life, so it is repeated one more time at the end of the instruction to prayer life. C. God’s forgiveness to us is conditioned upon our forgiveness to others.
15
Matthew 18:21-35 23 "Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26 "The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go.
16
Matthew 18:21-35 28 "But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded. 29 "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.' 30 "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.
17
Matthew 18:21-35 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 "Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. 35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”
18
10,000 talent = 10,000x6,000 = 60,000,000 denarii or 60,000/365= 164 years wage. It is impossible to return this debt. 60,000,000/100 = 600,000 times.

III. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 【 Matt 4:1 】
20
peirasmo,j peirasmos = Temptation = 試探, 這 個字的意思是 test, try, make trial of, for the purpose of ascertaining his quality, or what he thinks, or how he will behave himself.
21
James 1:12-15 12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. 13 When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; 14 but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
22
Conclusion Forgiveness is the key.
