Warming up Look at the pictures, what are they saying? Can you give me some phrases that can be used when meeting someone ?

9.1 Did you have a good journey? The focus is on the general devices for trip making. Practice is concentrated on verbal devices employment.

Role-play. Students work in pairs as they decide who they'd speak to and what they might say. They can use the speech balloon expressions

9.2 Hotels and accommodation This section deals with making hotel bookings and discussing accommodation facilities.

9.2 B Listening The recording is a typical phone call to book a hotel. Play the recording more than once. They should first get the gist of the conversation and again note down their answers.

Answer to 9.2 A Vera Miiller phones because she has special requirements--one of the people she's booking for is unable to climb stairs, and she needs the information very urgently

9.2 B Role play 1 Student A look at File 21; student B look at File 50. Students read through their information and role-play the phone call. 2 In this case, make it clear to the students that the other hotel should be phoned.

9.5 Organizing a conference we go directly to business conferences. If they are asked to organize a conference, what should we prepare to do? What arrangements we will have to make for it? (Resolve problem, make arrangements, and draft correspondences)
