This Week Preview DayWhat Are We Doing? MondayFinish Act III, Scenes 2 and 3. Compare and contrast Antony’s and Brutus’ speeches to the Roman crowd. TuesdaySRI Testing #2. WednesdayStart Act IV Thursday/ Friday Quiz on Julius Caesar #2. Finish Act IV. Start/Finish Act V.
4
Caesar died despite MULTIPLE WARNINGS that something bad will happen to him. Soothsayer’s warning Bad omens (people on fire, lion in the Capitol) Calpurnia’s dream More bad omens (no heart in the sacrificial animal, raining fire, corpses rising from their graves) Artimedorus’ petition warning him of the plot— although this letter will never be received, it is Caesar’s fault! What We Learned Last Week!
5
We are half-way through the play. Now that Caesar is dead, no one directly controls Rome. Power could shift to the Murderers of Caesar—Brutus, Cassius, Casca, Decius, Metallus, Trebonius, etc. Or Power could shift to Octavius, the next person in line— the only problem is that Octavius is too young to directly take control of Rome. What We Learned Last Week!
6
Who controls Rome will come down to Brutus’ and Antony’s speeches to the Roman people. Who will the people believe?!? What We Learned Last Week!
7
Remember, there are no preview notes from this point onward! Pay attention to every scene and stopping point. Answer every question I give you—it will GREATLY help on your Julius Caesar exam. Julius Caesar, Act III
