4 The Atlantic Ocean provides the eastern border of Florida.
On the western side of Florida is the Gulf of Mexico. The bordering states of Florida are Georgia and Alabama. The highest point in Florida is Britton Hill, Lakewood Park in Walton County and is 345 feet above sea level. The lowest point in Florida is sea level where Florida meets the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Florida Facts Florida's natural resources include trees, citrus fruit, sugar canes, fish, beaches, water, and cattle.

5 The Timucua Tribe The Timucua were American Indian people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida and southeast Georgia. They were the largest indigenous group in that area and consisted of about 35 chiefdoms, many leading thousands of people. The various groups of Timucua spoke several different dialects of the Timucua language. At the time of European contract, the territory occupied by speakers of Timucuan dialects occupied about 19,200 square miles and was home to between 50,000 and 200,000 Timucuans. It stretched from the Altamaha River and Cumberland Island in present day Georgia as far south as Lake Georgia in central Florida , and from the Atlantic Ocean west to the Aucilla River in the Florida panhandle, though it reached th e Gulf of Mexico at no more than a couple of points.

6 Juan Ponce de Leon Juan Ponce de Leon was born in He was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. He became the first Governor of Puerto Rico by appointment of the Spanish crown. He led the first European expedition to Florida, which he named. He is associated with the legend of the Fountain of Youth, reputed to be in Florida.
