2 Web Based Email Account  Web based email accounts can be accessed using a web browser.  You send text messages and also digital files such as images, audio and video attached with the email message.

3 Advantages of Email  Email messages are sent instantly.  The cost for an Internet Service Provider often includes email service.  Web mail is usually free.  One email message can be sent to multiple recipients.  Email is accessible anywhere, anytime.

4 Email Address apple@gmail.com An email address consists of 3 parts: 1. Username (selected by the email owner) 2. @ sign (distinguish email from a web address) 3. Domain name (company providing the email service) 1 23

5 Logging into your Account  First part before the @ sign  Unique and identifies the name of the user  Use to log in to your email account along with your password Username

6 Logging into your Account  Allows only you access to your account  Choose a password that is not easy to guess Password

7 Using your Account  Inbox – The folder to view delivered messages  Compose – Create a message to send  Delete – Delete an email message Primary, Social and Promotions tabs are specific to Gmail:  Primary – your main email messages inbox  Social – email messages related to social media (Facebook, Twitter)  Promotions – email messages from businesses offering coupons, deals or other information

8 Composing Email  Email Address – An address that someone has to type in the “to” field so that a message can be sent.  CC Field – All recipients are aware of who has been copied in on the email.  BCC Field – can be used when you don’t want the recipient to know who else has received a copy.  When ready to send your message, click the Send button.

9 Receiving Email  Reply – To send a message back to the person who sent it, with a new message added.  Forward – To pass a message that you have received to another person.  Delete – Deleting an open message.

10 Spam  Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings.  Unwanted email messages, usually trying to sell something.  Three main components: anonymity, mass mailing and unsolicited.
