5 Degree Programme in Oral Hygiene  Students graduating from the Degree Programme in Oral Hygiene gain the title 'Oral Hygienist' and have the qualification to work as an expert in oral health care. The degree programme offers  courses leading up to a Polytechnic Bachelor's Degree  specialization studies  further education in the discipline  open polytechnic education in the discipline  Continuing education (Master’s degree) Further education  Further education is organized with a consideration for the needs of professional life. The study period in continuing education leading up to a degree is shorter than normal, as it will be influenced by an earlier professional degree and/or work experience. Learning Strategy for Internationality and Multicultural Oral Health Care - developing of collaborative and expansive action-expertise The basis for learning accordant with expansive learning cycle is the recognition and the conflict analysis of the need to learn the cultur sensitive oral health care, the special charcteristics of cultures and family-centred oral health care. Learning proceeds towards a new operations model and evaluation of it. The learning processes are: Learning internationality and multicultural oral health care integrates with all the other learning strategies and is part of the evidence-based collaborative oral health care of children and young people and also adults and elderly people. The development of the vertical expetise of dental hygienist students: - to recognize the special charasteristics of different cultures and thei effect on the oral health care - to develop culture sensitive health promotion bot at the individual and community level - to work culture sensitively in oral health care -To have ability to work in international student exchance both independently and in team Besides vertical expertise every student can work as a representative of her/his own culture in international environments and multiform networks Trialogical action or action targeted to the object when the aim is to enhance equality and tolerance in oral health care and expand culture sensitive competencies Competence becomes evident: - cooperation with people with different cultural backround in social and health service system and different communities in Finland and abroad -composing and improving new practices Research and development –dimension: Multicultural oral health care –project As partners: Oral health care of Health Centre of Helsinki and Innofocu –adult education centre Acquisition of information - dimension Participation -dimensionKnowledge construction –dimension Implementation of the strategy: This learning strategy goes through the whole education and thereby integrates to all practical training. Internationality and multicultural oral health care as a part of the whole learning, the core learning related to that, knowledge base and learning environment are described in semester-specific orientation. These courses will cover the basis of internationality and multicultural oral health care: part of the orientation studies, Culture-centred Oral Health Promotion, Swedish at work and Professional English. Also internationationality and multiculturality as a theme is included in several professional courses. Besides learning internationality and multicultural oral health care it is important to reflect the development on cultural competence of the student in practical period and/or international activity. Learning environment and partnership: Learning studio, Social and Health Centre, The Institute of Dentistry at the University of Helsinki, private sector of oral health care, Innofocus –Adult Education Centre, the third sector, the Universities and networks in The Netherlands and Sweden and also in Japan, Canada and USA that are co-operating with Sokrates- and Nordplus programmes.
