There are two 6 inch thick concrete fire walls extending from the concrete floor (foundation) through the ceiling at 8 feet and extending 38 inches outside of the outside wall of the building. In the attic, there is a wood frame above the concrete wall extending 32 inches above the roof. The wood frame is covered with Thermo Ply sheeting with a 1 hour fire rating Steel siding covers the Thermo Ply completely, inside and outside of the attic. Feed lines and a water line are the only lines through the concrete walls. No lines penetrate the walls in the attic.
38
Electric and natural gas services are brought into each section from the outside through the attic. Gas furnaces for the hallway are mounted outside of the building. The two fire walls divide the building into sections with two farrowing rooms on each end and three rooms in the center. Each room is approximately 44 feet by 76.5 feet. The hallway, which connects the rooms to the unit has a fire door at each fire wall. New fire alarms will be installed this winter that will tell us whether it is a fire or other issue and which building or room the alarm is coming from.
